I had such a great day today!!! I know I say that every day but it really has been a great experience every day I’ve been here. I’ve been able to learn or see something new every single day. This morning we went to a public health meeting in Monument Valley. It was great, because we got to hear different presentations about STIs, blood glucose monitoring, wellness, and many other things. We did some really fun activities to help the group work together. It was nice to be included with the public health team and hear some of the things that they’re working hard on in the Navajo Nation. After the meeting, we ate lunch at Goulding’s Lodge, right next to the former home of John Wayne. It was really interesting to see! We also had a little bit of time to shop there. Then Sarah and I went with some of the Navajo women, who are part of the public health team in Kayenta, to hike near “The Three Sisters” rock in Monument Valley. It was completely amazing!!! A group of us started out hiking up an old uranium mining road. Everyone made it pretty far but only 4 of us made it all the way to the top! It took an hour to hike up and a half hour to hike back down. It was extremely windy and the latter part of the trail was completely rock. We had so much fun with all the ladies! Along the way up the rock, one of the women showed me a bush with some berries on it. She said that where she was from they called them “skunk berries”. She ate a few and told me to try them so I ate some. They were delicious!! They were really sour and tasted like they had sugar on them. After we got back from the hike we went to CJs for dinner and she made us steak (it was filet!) Mmmm it was so good. We had a great dinner and a great time hanging out and talking. Now I’m home and getting ready to go to bed. Tomorrow is our last day on the reservation and it’s really bittersweet. I’m really sad to leave this amazing place, but I’m also excited to go home and see all the people I love. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing tomorrow, but I’m sure it’ll be great. I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunities that I’ve had here and I hope to have the chance to come back someday. I’ve met a lot of wonderful people and made a lot of unforgettable memories.
I also added a picture of a cradle board for you all to see. It’s what I talked about the other day; the thing that is used to swaddle babies.
